For Your 8th Birthday

My Dearest Adam,

You just turned 8 years old.

I still remember the day you were born like if it was yesterday.

I won’t bother trying to describe what it was like to hold you for the first time —

or for that matter every time since. 

Words are useless at that and you’ll find out yourself one day.

It is an honor to watch you grow into such a great young man with your smarts and humor intact.

There will be more, the physical changes, the attitude of adolescent boys, the sports, the girls (!)

You will do great, not without bumps and hiccups but we will always, always be there for you.

But before that, have a great year, Son!
